    If sportwashing leads them to improve their human rights record because the world is scrutinising them, it is better than forcing sanctions on them and destabilising the region, which will make human rights issues worse.

  • @steveningram3732
    @steveningram3732 4 дня назад

    James Montague: I don’t know one Newcastle fan that not thinks human right issues in KSA is fine. Human rights movements have used the purchase to their advantage. It’s ridiculous to say PIF bought invested just to influence one city in the western world in their favour. NUFC was bought at a good price simply for investment. A country that owns much of the world does not care about sports washing.

    Mr. Simon Chadwick claims that the 170-kilometer-long Line will be shortened to three kilometers by the Saudi government because of its high cost. This statement is incorrect and demonstrates ignorance and lack of knowledge. The truth is that Saudi Arabia has completed the necessary infrastructure for the initial three kilometers, and construction of the remaining 170 kilometers will continue. Therefore, Mr. Chadwick's statement is false and misleading, and I do not understand why he provided this incorrect information.

      To be fair there were lots of reports to this effect (countless news outlets) earlier this year. Obviously this has been disputed by Saudi officials. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle AND ultimately nobody knows yet do they. We shall see 😌

    Great podcast/youtube viewing…imo I disagree…in this day and age coming into football isn’t, unless you are Cashley😂, about making money…PIF is worth soooo much money and it’s sort of never ending with Bin Salaman worth £2 trillion so Simon’s idea they are investing £1 to make £1.50 I think is wide of the mark, they want to use Toon as a project to show what can be done with their £ and like Abu Dabi/Qatar it is a long term project which is for one thing only not cash, it’s success🎉

    Really enjoyed this episode. It’s nice to hear an educated perspective. There’s a lot of sense being spoken even though it’s not necessarily what we want to hear. The next few years are going to be very interesting for everyone related to NUFC. I personally can’t wait for the club statement with regards to future growth of the stadium. I feel that I have a connection to the club again yet saddened by Amanda’s departure we still look towards the future in a positive way. It’s exciting, creative, ambitious all the things it never was under the previous shit bag. I’ve never understood why Ashley wasn’t questioned about sports washing. He is still one of the biggest contributors to child labour in the world and yet this still goes completely unchallenged by practically anyone. The fact is Ashley was/is sports washing because he was promoting his brands made with child labour and nobody noticed. Meanwhile Saudi Arabia are in the world’s spot light for their human rights abuses so things are done with careful consideration. As for comparison on their ownership of NUFC I’d happily have PiF and the Reubens over Ashley any day of the week. It’s night and day. Owners come and go as do players and fans the only difference being fans are here for life. Football is all about the here and now and everything is about those 90+ minutes and enjoying them and nothing more. So I’m happy right here right now just enjoying what’s happening at the Club I love. ⚫️⚪️✊🏻

      While I cannot stand Le grand Michelle at least he just banned journalists that he didn’t like. He didn’t chop them up with a bone saw (well, not that we know of:) The fact is that a person dying of thirst will take a drink from anyone. Coupled with the investment and the fact the place seems to be run by grown ups now it does seem that it’s all much better. But the fact remains that Saudi Arabia is a Very Bad Place. But what can you do? Can’t just stop supporting the Toon. It’s like saying “oh just stop loving that person!” You just can’t do it.

    • @3yourself
      @3yourself 5 дней назад

      @@geordiedog1749 I’ve never been to Saudi Arabia so I don’t know if it’s a very bad place as you have suggested. It has different laws and religions. The laws are based on their religious beliefs so I guess if you break the laws of their religion then yes I would imagine it’s not very nice to be classed as a criminal there. I’m not condoning what goes on there I’m honestly not qualified or experienced enough to have the answers tbh. But what I can say is that since the takeover the human rights system of Saudi Arabia has been highlighted more than ever before. So it’s hard to say it’s sports washing if anything owning NUFC has put Saudi Arabia under a brighter spot light. Which isn’t a bad thing is it?

    If anybody think that the far leftists and the radical Islamists will tone down their attacks on Saudi Arabia with their various excuses, such human rights …etc, you are definitely wrong. Because their hostility to Saudi Arabia is rooted in their programs and ideology. Saudi Arabia, with its various investments, is not seeking to please them at all.

      Hinterland! Manchester is in a much more densely populated part of the country. It’s a massive conurbation. We’ve got a few small towns north, the Kielder reservoir west, the dark place to the south and the North Sea to the east. Manchester is also massively easier to get to than Newcastle. Point is we have probably a limit on how big our ticket buying fan base can get.

    "sports washing" is just utter nonsense. It is a redactive racist term used to politicise financial investment, little more than gaslighting for geopolitically ignorant people, that believe in the fundamentals of western exceptionalism. The KSA do not give a flying fook what you, you nan or the government thinks about them, they, like everyone else in human history, invest money to make money. Please don't involve the propagandists of neo-liberal hegemonic exceptionalism in football. There is no place for it. Naughty True Faith, go sit in the corner.

This, on the other hand, was really interesting, relevant and informative. This is very, very important to our club and getting some experts in to talk about it is a coup. Well done.
